Claudia Tellini’s quintet is a task force dedicated to regenerating and reinterpreting something rare: the first “free” albums by a 20-year-old Stevie Wonder, ready to take on and conquer a legendary role in the history of music. His lyrics are full of messages of resistance and criticism against the establishment, released during the civil rights movement, expressions of a yearning for freedom. Wonder’s repertoire, integrated with original arrangements and snippets by the group, is enriched with texts by Pier Paolo Pasolini and George Orwell. Stevland, an original project that brings together five of the best Tuscan jazz musician, pays tribute to the great genius of black music, performing timeless music that transcends genres.
